Another New Year ... Do I Need A Resolution?

I can't believe another year has passed and it's time to start again! I've finally been able to catch up on all of my favorite blogs, close friends and authors and I have to say that you all are INSPIRING!! Exhausing too..No, seriously after catching up with all all of your amazing blogs, the only thing this Princess needed was a NAP! Maybe a glass of wine, but that's it! I couldn't even look at another resolution! Just take a glance, the book blogging/blogging community as a whole is not a lazy group. Go ahead go to any one and look (I'll wait) ... There are already Numerous Challenges that you've set for yourselves and SO many books and pages you want to read, you have resolutions that promise weight loss and to be better parents. You're swearing to post AT least three posts a day (I'm just swearing) and if that's not good enough... Some of you, and and I won't mention specfic names, have already written three-fourths of your novel and are hoping to get some of your favorites OFF the Banned Book List! I'm so not kidding.

Sorry, I was just hyperventilating thinking about the fact that I'll never post three times a day EVER! So, yes, inspiring! Thank you for letting me be a part of this amazing group of readers/writers for another year. It's really what gets me through so many though days. I hope to bring you more this year and only the best! I have been planning this out for a while. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out the way I want it too. I look forward to seeing you and all of your achievements! Now go out there and make me proud!

Yes, it's me, and I'm finally back! (for good, I hope) I have SO much to catch you up on (and probably some explaining to do) but you have NO idea how much I've missed you all! Besides that, there are books that I've read and contests that I want to have ... oh, and over the past holidays I got some major EXCITING news! Well, you remember that I got to play the "Secret Keepers" game and I had a Blast with that ... but, over Earth Day, "A" sent me a box and inside was a pair of gloves, a shovel and a secret link. Quick Question - I Need Help Please!

So, I have a really quick question that I can't figure out on my own but I it can be done because I've seen it on some of the other fantastic blogs that I visit! I know how to put a link under a word so that you can click back or refer back to a page BUT (and here's my question) how do you put a link under a picture or photo so that you can click back to page other than my own? Say I had a cover of a book up and I wanted to reference it back to either it's page on Goodreads, the Author's Site, or The Publisher's Page? How would I do that?

Can you give us a quick bio about yourself?   About me, hmm, I love to read and can practically always be found with my nose in a book. And if I'm not reading I am working on my blog.

Why did you start your blog? I wanted to share my personal thoughts on the books that I read. I’ve also found that it’s a great way to find neww books and authors that I might never have bothered looking into reading.

What is your favorite genre and/or genres? My favorite genres are YA, fantasy, mystery sci-fi, horror, and supernatural. I also have a soft spot for mangas.

Who is your favorite author? My all-time favorite author would have to be Agatha Christie, she
completely rocks. Her mysteries are some of the best I have ever read

What's your favorite book of all time? I guess I would have to say that "Death on the Nile" by Agatha Christie is my favorite book, but there’re a ton of books that are tied for second.

Has there ever been a book you've "faked" reading? No. If I didn’t like it enough to finish, I’m going to be truthful and say that I didn’t finish it.

What are you currently reading? Will there be a review/reviews in the works? I am currently reading Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Yes, there will be a review sometime in the future for it. I am also currently
working on a review for Seeker by William Nicholson; hopefully I’ll have it up by the end of the week.

Please Name & Describe Your Blog Features:  I participate in quite a few memes, like, Teaser Tuesday, where you post a short teaser from your current read; In My Mailbox, where you post about books and book swag that you have received, bought, or borrowed; Wish List Wednesday where you tell about a book that you are looking forward to buying. I have also begun accepting affiliates, and still have a few open slots. While I really enjoy doing memes, my favorite feature on my blog is reviews. I love reviewing books and introducing other people to new books and authors.

Describe your review system: My review system is probably one of the least complicated ones. 1 pineapple, means it was a complete waste of my time; 2 pineapples, means I just didn’t enjoy it; 3 pineapples, means it was good, but not necessarily something I’d re-read; 4 pineapples means that I really liked it; 5 pineapples means that I loved it and would recommend it to everyone.

How is your blog unique from other blogs? I think what makes my blog unique is that I review more obscure books and tend to read to the beat of my own drum.

How do you market your blog Orchid? By commenting on other blogs, and participating in challenges and guesting at other blogs.

Can you give us 3 tips about content? Tip number one: try not to include spoilers in your reviews, it tends to turn people off from reading a book where they already know the big twist. Tip number two: to keep in mind that authors are real people to, so try to keep the snarkiness to a minimum. Tip number three: Make sure you have the correct info about a book (i.e. author’s name, title, pub date…).

How about tips on Blog promotion? Two good ways to promote our blog would have to be, commenting on and following other blogs. Because you’ve got to get your blog out into the blogosphere if you want to get noticed.

A Very Bad Princess

Once upon a time there was a plain peasant girl—scuffs on her shoes, dirt under her fingernails—who was invited to sit on the princess’s throne for an entire day. That’s me, Katie Williams, scepter in hand, feeling atypically regal since our highness has invited me here to tell you about my debut novel, The Space Between Trees.

The Space Between Trees doesn’t have any princesses in it, no castles or charging steeds, nary a fairy godmother to be seen. But, like many good fairytales, it features a girl who has been overlooked.

Sixteen-year-old Evie somehow missed out on making friends, real friends anyway. She doesn’t have a boyfriend either, although she’s convinced the girls at school that she’s involved in a flourishing romance with college dropout Jonah Luks. Still, try as she might, she remains lonely, quirky, and anonymous. But all that changes when Evie spies the police pulling a murdered schoolmate’s body from the woods behind her paper route, and suddenly she’s at the center of the story everyone wants to hear. Eager for attention, Evie exaggerates her connection the dead girl, thereby drawing herself into a wrongheaded murder “investigation” that questions truth and fiction, innocence and guilt.

Perched here on my borrowed throne, I can’t help but think about princesses, and how being a princess is not about the sparkling tiaras and drool-worthy gowns (well, maybe it’s a little bit about the gowns), but is really about being kind and virtuous. After all, Cinderella was a princess on the inside way before she got the fairy-godmother makeover. By such standards, my protagonist Evie is very unprincesslike. She lies; she manipulates; she connives. And her machinations lead to serious trouble and permanent loss.

Does Evie sound like a horrible person to you? She makes some huge mistakes; it’s true. So how could I write a character who behaves so very badly? Well, I liked Evie because, despite her flaws, she was interested in the world around her and, also, she was daring. She’d do things I never would, even if some of those things were the wrong things. Furthermore, I understood Evie. Her bad behavior came from the same desires that make the princess character such an appealing fantasy: She wanted to feel special, pretty, and most of all, loved. And once I understood Evie better, I felt I could write more of her story to see where her lies led, to discover if she would eventually accept her rags and discover the secret that all true princesses know: She is special because she is herself.

My Thoughts:

First of all just let me admit that I loved this book when I saw the cover! Yes, it was Cover Love! I had HIGH Hopes for this book! Also, there's nothing better than a thriller that keeps me up all hours of the night. So, I put this book on a pedestal before I even opened it. Sometimes I do that and it's a bad thing, because I've built it up so much in my mind and then I read it and I say "That was good, but..." Not in this case!

"THE SPACE BETWEEN TREES" was a beautifully written story about a girl who has no friends and is just forced to grow up so faced. I was amazed at how daring Evie could be at times and how fragile at others. It's true that Evie didn't fit in, and I'll explain that a little bit below, but how many teenagers do. This book will be a helpful to so many teens that feel like they're left out or they don't have a boyfriend but want one. How about everyone else has done that. I remember Evie saying something like "I've done nothing" when being questioned over and over as to what she's done, and how dangerous she is.

No matter where Evie goes, she just doesn't seem to fit in. At school she sits with a bunch of girls she's nicknamed "The Whisperers" just because they didn't protest and she doesn't have any real friends. So, she makes up stories and lies to keep them entertained and at least talking to her. Sadly enough Evie does the same at home. Evie's parents have been divorced since she was a little girl and she only has two real memories of her father. What really bothers Evie is that her mother was this super-popular teenage girl with like a million friends and sees no reason that Evie shouldn't be doing the same things she did. She's always asking her about friends, so Evie lies to her mother as well and makes up stories about "The Whisperers" just to make her mother happy. The only friend Evie ever had was a girl named Elizabeth MaCabe but that was long before now, that was in grammar school and it was only because Elizabeth's mother used to watch Evie for a little while. Once that stopped and they got older, Zabet got with the wrong crowd, and began to hang out with a new best friend Hadley Smith. She was known as the tough girl in school. Zabet's Hello's went to mere eye contact down to nothing at all.

There is something Evie looks forward to, and that's every Sunday when she's delivering her papers. She gets to see Jonah. Jonah's a college boy that she has a serious crush on, of course this is a one way street. He sees her as his sometimes friend and they talk briefly. His job is to collect all the dead animals that are in the woods close to the homes in the upscale neighborhood where Evie also delivers her papers. One day it all changes when she sees Jonah come out of the woods and go into an old woman's house. Suddenly, the police are everywhere and Evie is too scared to move from the spot she's crouched in. Many things race through her head, she wonders what could've happened and suddenly inches away she's passed by a body bag. Evie watches as they load the body onto the truck and even as she hears Jonah call her name for the first time, all she can do at that point is run. Later she finds out from her mother that Zabet has been murdered.

I could go on and on about how she gets together with Mr. MaCabe, Zabet's father or how about how she finally finds a best friend and you won't believe who it is. All these things happen because of her lies that keep getting bigger and bigger. But, Evie is a lovable character and she can tell the truth and most of all, she knows who she is. Hadly is obsessed with finding Zabet's killer and so, together they make a list and do some private investigating of their own. Who killed Zabet? It's a long list of suspects and yes, it is tied up at the end.

Katie Williams did an AMAZING job with "THE SPACE BETWEEN TREES"! The depth of Evie's character alone and the storyline had me up two nights in a row until the wee hours of the morning. But it's not just Evie's character that will get you, it's just about all of them. Even the background characters had enough depth for me to connect with them and to HAVE to know what was going to happen next. I hope that there is more coming for Katie Williams, she's a brilliant storyteller! "THE SPACE BETWEEN TREES" is not to be missed!

My Thoughts:

I knew I wanted to review "Finn Throws A Fit" the moment I saw the cover! Yes, it was love at first sight for me and well, let's just say that I haven't stopped reading it since! Who hasn't been going about their business and then all of a sudden out of nowhere it seems like this precious child has gone from zero to sixty in a matter of seconds and over what? Everyone in the room and even if it's just you is looking around like ... "Excuse me? Where is my lovable, sweet child and..... [insert long pause] What did you do with him?"

That's adorable Finn! Oh, he usually likes peaches but, his mother gave him the mistake of thinking he might like some today. Finn doesn't like peaches today. Finn doesn't like ANYTHING today and EVERYONE is going...to...pay! You see Finn doesn't just throw any 'ol toddler fit, he throws THE FIT to END ALL FITS! He throws a full on tantrum and soon there is thunder in the nursery, lightening in the kitchen, and even a blizzard in the bathroom! Imagine what goes on in the rest of the house!

I have to say that Finn is one of the most adorably drawn characters I've seen in a long time! The illustrations are beautifully done throughout the book and the story is sure to make both parents and children alike laugh outloud. I have bought two of these books already as gifts. What can I say, Finn had my heart at page one. His little blue blankie and those yellow boots, peaches or not, I'll take him home any day! If you're looking for a fun book to read aloud with your favorite little one, look no further, you've found it in "Finn Throws A Fit!"

Pretty Little Liars Personalized

So, remember a while back when I told you that I was chosen by ABC Family to be a Secret Keeper and Play the Pretty Little Liars Game? Well the character I was playing was "Spencer Hastings" who in the book series is my favorite! This had to be one of the best experiences of my life! I met a lot of nice bloggers and I had a great team. I was notified by mail that as a winner of the Secret Keepers Game, I got to ask the real Spencer, Troian Bellisario a question, and she would personally answer *MY* question! I was freaking out! So many questions went through my mind, and we were asked to put down more than one question - did I mention we had a day to do this? OK, so I'm nervous and excited all at the same time as I'm writing my questions to Troian wondering which one the staff will pick. Yesterday in my mailbox, I found my answer. A personalized video to me on YouTube.com with my question with an answer and a "Thank You" from Troian, herself! Are you ready to see? Me too!! (AGAIN)

I never get tired of watching that!

I loved the game and I love ABC Family for making me a part of this amazing opportunity! Most of all I can't stress how much I love both the Pretty Little Liars Books and the New Show which you can find on ABC Family every Tuesday night at 8pm EST!

I had a blast being Spencer Hastings for about a month and a half! We each got texts from "A" the same way they do on the show and each of us would be given a challenge. If we didn't do the challenge or do it to "A's" liking then an embarrassing personal secret would be revealed about us right in our group for everyoe to read. The more secrets you kept, the better off you were. I should let you in on some of the challenges we had to do...that is, if you're interested.

My Thoughts:

AlphaOops! H is for Halloween is an adorable book of a mixed-up alphabet filled with letters that each have a personality and a mind of their own! The alphabet is going to put on a Halloween play so get your ticket and take your seats! When A gets called out first he knows his place. Besides, he's not ready getting dressed and, you can't start a Halloween play without "H"going first! So, each of these adorably drawn letters take their places dressed in costumes to match their letter. Everyone that is except for B! Every time B goes to take his turn, it seems that someone has taken his costume! For example, when the letter P proudly yells out "PIRATE", poor B sadly says "He took my costume". But, no one knew that he wanted to be a BUCKANEER! B keeps trying and each letter is taking his or her turn. It starts to look pretty grim and maybe even that B won't have a costume for the play after all. But how can they not include B? Even X found a costume and E had an Encore! Oh what's poor B to do? Find out what the letter B comes out with and how each and every letter completes the Halloween play their own way! This is a book you won't want to miss for the upcoming season!

What a fantastic book to share with your little ones for the upcoming fall season! The bright colors will keep the little ones interested and see how many costumes you can guess for each letter with your child that's a little older! Each and every page has so much going and the letters of "AlphaOops! H is for Halloween" will have your children in stitches! This is a Five Tiara Book all the way!

My Thoughts:

This book I have such torn feelings about because it's a picture book with absolutely no words. Now, with that said, these I normally love. Why? Because it's free for the child's mind to make up the story they want. The child can tell the story they see in their mind as they go along with pictures alone and I love letting them do that. I volunteer my time now and each child usually has at least one part of the story that's unique. I'll tell you why I'm torn. Donna Diamond does AMAZING (all in caps for a reason) illustrations and The Shadow is gorgeous. The pictures are really striking. But, for the age range, I think that for some children, it may be a little too scary. Here's why, and I know I may get some argument because I know what the purpose of the book is.

The child in the story comes home from school one day where she is drawing and playing while her dolls watch. At first the little girl doesn't even notice the shadow, but when she does, she's very afraid and she tries to hide. I know now would be the time to explain to children that it's just your shadow and it's brought on at different times of the day by sunlight or by light in general. That it could make you look tall or short, etc. But the shadow in this book is really scary and it doesn't look like the little girl at all! It has a face with cut out eyes and a mouth at times and also very boney hands that almost look like it is trying to grab the child. After a little while the girl realizes that it's her shadow and she stands up to her fear. I won't give away how she fixes it, but she's pretty proud of herself. This part of the book was wonderful and the entire book is amazingly illustrated. But, at the end of the book nightfall is upon us and we see the little one in bed. She's sleeping and all looks well in her room until we get to the last page. On the very last page and here is a SPOILER ALERT - we see a pair a very scary yellow sinister eyes hiding under her bed while she sleeps! I just thought it was a little much and it would definitely scare most children into thinking there was something under their bed. As an older child, probably not and an adult, no. But the age range for this book and it being a picture book, yes. So, for "The Shadow" I have to give it 3 tiaras for the story and 5 stars for the illustrations. I usually don't separate, but this book is beautiful and I really have to!

About The Author:

Donna Diamond has illustrated numerous children’s books and book jackets, including Katherine Paterson’s BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA. She lives in Riverdale, New York. Author's Bio (taken from Author's site) - Donna Diamond was born and raised in New York City. She attended Boston University School of Fine and Applied Art and received a BFA in sculpture. Encouraged by Robert Blackburn, she pursued printmaking at the Printmaking Workshop and exhibited at the AIR Gallery. Ms. Diamond also creates art for books, where her work has met with critical success.

Her recent work explores the boundaries of painting and collage and incorporates the use of modern technology. Fascinated by the power of narrative, she recently completed a suite of seventeen paintings that work sequentially to express a psychological drama. My Rating!!

My Thoughts:

Even as an arachnophobe, Speckle stole my heart from page one! This book is filled with big, bight beautiful drawings to keep even the youngest readers that are just starting out interested. Not only that, your little ones will be turning the pages to find out how Speckle did on his report card, read his travel papers and even read some special mail from his fans! Each one comes out of an envelope or other little holder within the book for your child to find.

Speckle is adorable, lovable and hard to resist. As a matter of fact, speckle is SURE he's SPECIAL and he's definitely knows how to dance! What Speckle wants more than anything is to be in the limelight and to PROVE it to everyone he has what it takes to be a star! So, Speckle leaves his cozy home in the Bahamas behind and heads for "somewhere" else on a boat. But to this little spider's surprise, being special isn't all it's cracked up to be. Soon he's given a home at the zoo where everyone can see him dance all day long! But he's not alone in his home, here he lives with Suzy, who can't dance well but "can turn a pretty good cartwheel". All Speckle knows is he has to end this dream turned nightmare and he must take beautiful Suzy with him. After all, they're both rare spiders and he can't just leave her behind.

Speckle longs to be back in the Bahamas and soon both he and Suzy are on the lamb... Will they make it back? Is the grass always greener? Is this why they say you should never look for happiness further than your own back yard or to Be careful what you wish for? My Thoughts -

When a tragic car accident takes Amy's father and her mom decide's to start a new life on the East Coast instead of the West just in time for senior year Amy doesn't think life can get much worse. Then she finds out she'll be spending four days driving across country in a car with Roger, a friend of Amy's mother's son. Amy isn't happy about doing this to say the least. Until the car pulls up and she actually starts to think -- What if he's cute -- and he is! It wasn't long before Amy's mother's carefully planned trip complete itinerary and hotel reservations were soon all thrown away. There were no rules, new boundaries were crossed, because that's what you do when you're teenagers. alone, and suddenly find yourself with a little crush situation that you don't know what to do with, but you're having the time of you're life!

Roger has the away of making Amy do things that she probably wouldn't do on her own. He takes her out of her shell so to speak and she shows off her unique side. They have the best time together and there is a little bit of everything mixed in this ride. My best advice? Buckle up and enjoy the ride because believe me, it doesn't last long enough! I wished that their trip lasted much longer than four days!

This story is sweet, endearing and one that I will never forget! I cried with Amy, and I laughed as well. I couldn't help but feel for her so many times as she felt the blame for the loss of her father. Every teenage girl dreams of a guy like Roger, and Amy was lucky enough to find him. You'll find romance, heartbreak and maybe a whole bunch of small pieces that take you back to your teens as well.

The best part of a road trip is always souvenirs and I think that's especially true for someone like Amy that's never really traveled without her parents or even beyond her state. This book is full of receipts, real pictures, drawings, play lists, notes about each state, things they've done and little scrapbook pages which made me feel like the journey was actually happening and I was a part of it.

Debut novels are amazing because finding a new author to love is a great treasure! You better believe that I will be looking for more books by Morgan Matson! This book is not just a light, easy read. It's deep with meaning and it's filled with feeling that touched my heart. I really sat back and let the wind blow through my hair as I savored this book from cover to cover. My only complaint, the ride wasn't long enough.

Pretty Little Liars - Secret Keepers Game!

This was a Huge Honor for me and I can't tell you just how hard it's been to keep this a secret for me! Although, by now, I'm sure you all know about The Secret Keepers Game that's going on, which is being sponsored by ABC Family! I wanted to post this as close to the premiere date as I could and well, I couldn't get any closer! Tonight, at 8/7c the very highly-anticipated PRETTY LITTLE LIARS television show will be on! This show is based on the amazingly popular novels of the same name by author Sara Shepard! I know I will be glued infront of infront of my television because I've been waiting for this for SO LONG!

OK... So, back to ABC Family and ME getting the most amazing letter in my inbox on May 18th! The letter basically said that I was chosen to be one of the "SECRET KEEPERS" by ABC Family and that if I accepted, I would be able to take part in a three week game PRETTY LITTLE LIAR - style from a mobile phone and a Facebook Page! It also said that we would be getting a package to keep and a sneak peek into the world of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS! We had to respond to a separate website by the 19th, be able to play for the three weeks and give a valid address where we could receive a package. The rest we would find out when it arrived. Well, I was just too excited for words! I have LOVED ABC Family since I was a little girl and The PRETTY LITTLE LIAR Novels are one of this girls favorite series! ABC Family encourages the players to speak from their own experience during the game and in NO WAY wants us to SAY that we like the show or ABC just because we are taking part in this game.

What do *I* have to say so far? That ABC certainly does know their ABC's of marketing and I am LOVING this game! I am playing Spencer Hastings. I had no idea until the box arrived and because of my situation, I didn't get to open it right away! I'll let you know a little bit more about Spencer in a moment! I got the basic idea on how to show off the Spencer character (not exact, but close enough to give her credit) from Kristi at The Story Siren. She did a wonderful Job. I have pictures of MY Box and what was in it, but, I am not going to show my secret item yet! But, I will tell you that ABC Family in the letter told us we would receive a "Smart Phone" to keep which would be deactivated after the game and if we wanted, we could reactivate it in our own name. Below is the character I'm playing and a little bio about what I'm like! Meet Spencer Hastings!

Inside my box, there was a gorgeous Pretty Black Collector's Box that said "PRETTY LITTLE LIARS" Wrapped in plastic! Once I saw it, I didn't want to even open it, it was *THAT* pretty! Then I opened the box and there was a piece of plastic that said "SOME SECRETS YOU HAVE TO DIG FOR" - A and if you've read the novels and you get something from "-A" you always know to be VERY AFRAID! So when I lifted the plastic there was potting soil! Yes, an entire box of dirt in my gorgeous box! I did just what it said and I started digging! I found my secret object (which each of us got), and then I found a plastic bag that was sealed and it had a card that said PRETTY LITTLE LIARS blocking what was in it. So, I put that aside and then I found one more plastic bag and it had a charger, and headphones and a manual. On the lid of the box is the cast who is playing Hanna, Spencer, Aria, and Emily and it's such a beautiful picture! It's the one I posted below!

Once I cleaned up and opend the package with the card, that's when I found out that I was playing Spencer, I had my password and website to go to! Thanks SO much to Alea of Pop Culture Junkie for helping me! She's on MY team as Hanna and has been nothing but the biggest help ever! It also said to go ahead and look through the phone. When I ever looked down and saw that I had a new iPhone to play with I couldn't believe it! Was it worth sifting through the dirt? You betcha'!

This game has been SO much fun and I want to personally thank ABC Family for having me remain a part of their family! Their marketing skills have definitely gotten MY attention and I hope they've gotten yours! There are four teams playing with four girls on each team! We are given missions to do each day some easy and some very hard! If you do it wrong "-A" reveals a secret about YOU to the whole team! You have to try to get the most challenges correct without making any mistakes. Each day she sends us our missions through a text on the phone! We post on our FaceBook and also on our private FaceBook pages! You may follow me by requesting me over to the left on my FB button! This game runs until June 18th, which is three days after my birthday! Happy Birthday to me...I feel a contest in the air!!

Believe me, there are missions where I may need you to go over to the boards and post about me so that I don't get any secrets revealed and I hope that I can count on my friends to help me! :)

Pretty Little Liars Novels - To Soon Be A Television Show!

I know that I've got a lot of chatching up to do and I've got some really BIG things in store for all of you! But, recently, in my email box and my regualar mailbox, I've gotten some pretty amazing news. I'm sure that most of you already know that Sara Shepard's PRETTY LITTLE LIARS novels are going to be made into a televsion show which will premiere on Tuesday, June 8th on ABC Family! I for one have stayed up into the wee hours reading the Pretty Little Liar series. It's so addictive and one of my very favorite guilty pleasures!

I'm already counting down the days until Tuesday just to see what happens. Oh... and as for what I got in my email box, I'll be more than happy to share them with all of you. Just because your my friends. And remember, I mean... "Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret -A"

As for what I got in my mailbox, it's good and there will be more on that later. But, I wanted to get this out to you as quickly as I could. In addition, Meg wrote the All American Girl, Mediator, and 1-800-Where-R-You series (on which the television series, Missing, was based). She is now writing a new middle grade series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls, as well as an edgy new young adult series, Airhead.

Meg was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse - at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby-writing novels-for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700-bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.

Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Florida, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.

My Thoughts:

Seeing I'm near the very end of the tour, I'm going to try and keep my "thoughts" short and sweet. I was so excited to get my hands on this book! Everything about it said "ME". The Knights of the Round Table, Merlin and Magic all told by a woman and not just any woman, a Fey? I counted the days until my book came. But, as I waited and read many reviews that were less than flattering to say the least, I began to worry. What would I do if I hyped it up too much in my mind?

So, here's the deal. Nivienne, is the daughter of the Lady of the Lake, and when her very dear friend Merlin is counting on her to help fight alongside the humans, she's not so sure. See, as a fey, she's always wanted to steer clear of humans and their greed. It was like asking her to fight with someone she already thought an enemy? Why would one do that? Well, if they lost, Nivienne loses her home as well. The beautiful forest that she's always known as home.

Many reviewers that I highly respect found that the language was too "flowery for them", many couldn't get into it and the majority found it to be a slow read. I was amazed at how well I know myself and what I know I'll like. I thought the language was beautiful and actually quite poetic. I loved how Anne Elliot Crompton took the legend and made a unique version of the story her own without losing the actual classic story. I do want to say that if you have knowledge of the original story, it will make it easier for you to follow. I also want to make it known that this book could easily be a YA/Adult crossover. I feel some younger YA may not know the original story and most adults will. I thought it was amazing. The Fey lore is perfect and just so spot-on! I'm absolutely glad I took a chance with this book and am giving it four tiaras! Why four and not five if I liked it so much? The characters, I wish I could've known a little more about the characters within this story.

My Thoughts -

When I first saw St. Patrick and The Three Brave Mice, I thought how wonderful it would be to review this book with St. Patrick's Day coming up! That was in January and it's already here! This book is the perfect way to introduce the story of the real St. Patrick to your children and maybe help answer some questions on why many people of Irish decent (or not) celebrate this holiday. As with many children's books, there is a lesson to be learned as well, and Joyce does a fantastic job weaving a tale that will keep the attention of even your littlest reader. Because, as you will soon see, it doesn't matter how big you are, but what you can do when you put your mind to it and follow your heart.

One night while Tulla Mouse just can't sleep, she leaves the nest where her two brothers Ryan and Bryan lay sound asleep. Tulla is looking at the beautiful moon rising high while cuddled up in a single leaf listening to the sounds of night when out of the darkness she hears a very loud snore coming from a man fast asleep under the tree. Not only that, she sees a glowing bell resting by this man's side and immediately wonders if it could be the "Real St. Patrick" with his miraculous bell. You see, St. Patrick rang his bell and rid Ireland of all the snakes. Well...all except one VERY clever snake that escaped the sound.

With Tulla Watching, that night the snake decides to stuff the bell with grass and steal it! No more ringing would be very good for this sneaky snake. Tulla as small as she is shows that size doesn't matter when she runs to the nest to wake Ryan and Bryan to concoct a plan and get that bell back to St. Patrick! Like most brothers, not too happy to be woken up, blame it on a "nightmare" or Tulla's "imagination". But, when she insists and they see for themselves, the three little mice spring into action on a mission to get the bell.

Even though Tulla is so very afraid, Ryan and Bryan remind her that she is the lightest, the tiniest and the quietest and that she is the perfect one to lead the pack. Shaking with fear, she knows what she must do to help save Ireland. With all the commotion, it doesn't take St. Patrick long before he's on his feet. Once he begins to ring his bell, in no time he and the three very brave little mice see to it that the last sneaky snake slithers toward the sea, never to be seen again.

If you love a well-told story with gorgeous illustrations then I suggest you pick up "St. Patrick and The Three Brave Mice". The Illustrations of the mice are too cute for words and the emerald greens and ocean blue tones that are used will certainly get he attention of even the little ones that like to "read" mainly for the pictures. In the back of the book on the last page Joyce gives you some history on Ireland and St. Patrick in her "Author's Note". So, to make my long review short, I absolutely loved this book and have highly recommended it to everyone since I've finished it. A wonderful way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the children.

I can't say enough about Claudia Gray's Evernight Series. Just when I think I have it figured out or know what one of the characters are going to do, I'm delightfully surprised as to what comes next! I recently had the chance to ask Claudia some questions and I thought I'd share them here on Park-Avenue Princess with you! At the end of the Interview, ONE very lucky reader will WIN their very own copy of HOURGLASS!
Princess: Where did you get the idea for the Evernight Series?

Claudia: I’ve always been interested in vampires, ghosts and anything supernatural, so it was probably inevitable that I’d wind up writing paranormals someday. But when I began trying to write professionally, I thought I’d never write for young adults, because I had a fairly atypical high school experience. But then I asked myself, well, what if I didn’t try to write the “typical” situation? What if, instead, I tried to come up with the most bizarre situation possible? A boarding school for vampires seemed like a good way to do that, and my agent (Diana Fox) was savvy enough to realize that the current YA paranormal boom was coming. So she told me to drop everything else and work on that, and the rest is in bookstores.

Princess: When you wrote the first book did you already map out what was going to happen or did it just develop as your wrote?

Claudia: I outlined EVERNIGHT in advance, just as I outline everything I work on. There’s no right or wrong way to write – some people get a lot out of outlining, and others find it paralyzes them – but for me, planning ahead is the only way to go. In fact, the more books I write, the longer and more detailed my outlines are becoming. There are still surprises in the writing process, things the characters will say or feel that come across differently than I originally imagined them, etc. But I like knowing where I’m going and figuring out the best possible way to get there.

Princess: Do you have a favorite character to write? Why?

Claudia: On any given day, my favorite character is the one who’s giving me the best reactions/dialogue to work with, and that changes all the time! But I can say that three of the characters who do this for me a lot are Balthazar, Ranulf and Mrs. Bethany. And I honestly love pretty much all of my characters, even the nasty ones, because I have so much fun writing and they’re each a part of that.
Princess: What's your advice for aspiring writers?

Claudia: The main advice I always give is (A) read everything you can get your paws on, because avid readers are always the best writers; (B) write as regularly as you have to in order to make it a habit and to make meaningful progress on the project you’re working on; and (C) educate yourself about the business while you’re still teaching yourself how to write, so that by the time you have a manuscript you’re actually proud of, you’ll know where to turn and what to do. There are a ton of great resources online for learning more about the industry, such as Backspace, Preditors & Editors, and Absolute Write.

Princess: What was the last book you read that you loved?

Claudia: Oh, I wish you’d caught me right after I finished an awesome YA. But having phrased the question in this way, you get me to admit that the last book I read was LITTLE DORRIT by Charles Dickens. I’ve been on something of a Dickens kick the last couple of years.

Princess: Any juicy hints about the next book in the series?

Claudia: Juicy hints for HOURGLASS? Let’s see – Bianca and Lucas are in real trouble when the story begins, but Balthazar gets into bigger trouble pretty fast. Even though Bianca and Lucas are far away from Evernight Academy during most of the story, a lot of old friends find their way into the drama, including Vic, Ranulf, Charity, and even Mrs. Bethany. And if you thought getting away from haunted Evernight would mean getting away from the wraiths – well, so did Bianca. And she was so, so wrong.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes Guest Post

I signed my first publishing contract when I was fourteen; I wrote my first complete novel when I was ten. I graduated high school, undergraduate and graduate school, went to Texas for a semester, have frequently worked full time, and maintain both a social- and love-life, all while continuing to write and publish. So it is not surprising that one of the questions I am most frequently asked is, “How do you do it all?”

I wrote Token of Darkness in November, 2007. At the time, I was a full-time student at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. I wrote the rough draft in 30 days as part of National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org), which is part of the answer: I need pressure in order to get anything done. 50k in 30 days (the goal of NaNo) is possible for me. I couldn’t do it every month, because I need to maintain the other parts of my life, but I can rise to the challenge of a goal and the friendly competition of NaNo.

What I cannot do is ever get anything done when I have too much time. Summer has always been a difficult time for me, because I tend to be under-scheduled once school lets out (and I am not really a fan of heat and humidity unless I am on vacation with a pool or the beach nearby). If I work out a schedule to organize what needs to be done in a logical form that eliminates stress, I will violate the schedule, or add something to it; too much time kills my inspiration, which tends to come up when I am moving quickly, tackling difficult tasks, problem-solving, or moving from point A to point B in the moments between work. I tend to solve plot problems in the car between appointments, not when I actually sit down to focus on them.

It is only recently that I have ever created a schedule or established a specific time for writing. In January, I started a job that I hope to turn into a long-term career. My fiancée and I have also been in the process of buying a house and planning our wedding, and I have finally discovered what might be my limit for how much I can do at one time: full time job, plus writing, plus editing, plus graduate class, plus wedding and house-buying plans. Apparently that combination is difficult (go figure), so I decided I needed to make some kind of plan to ensure I did not lose my writing focus while developing other parts of my life. I have set up 5:30 to 6:30 in the morning as a time for writing projects. This schedule has worked for me since the beginning of January- the trick is to make the coffee and start work before I am awake enough to wonder why I am awake at five in the morning- and I hope I can hold onto it as time moves on, especially as summer months arrive.

A Royal Review ~ Token of Darkness by Author Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

I felt like my review of Token of Darkness was making Amelia's Guest Post appear too far down on the page! Plus, there is a chance to win FIVE copies of this amazing book in the above said post! The post to do that should appear above this one. Just follow and enter!

As for my review - Token of Darkness gets 5 Tiaras and while I was given a copy of the book from the publisher, it was so that I could give an accurate and honest opinion.

My Thoughts -

I just recently had the absolute pleasure of reading 'Token of Darkness" and I highly recommend you do the same! Ameilia Atwater-Rhodes tells a story that's not only what one might call a page-turner, fun, and frightening, but above all else, unique. I couldn't wait to find out what happened with Cooper the once football star on the mend since he awoke in the hospital after being in a terrible car accident where he just escapes death. By his side, a beautiful girl -- Samatha; and right away you're thinking, his girlfriend, possibly a cheerleader. But, that's not the case. Even though Samantha does sit by his side and cheer him every step of the way. She tells him he can do anything. And when the pain gets to be too much, she reminds him that he's the kind of guy that doesn't give up. Always with him through every step of him getting better. Cooper fully believes that Samantha is a huge part of just why he's making his way back.

He wants Samantha to have her one wish too. Why shouldn't she have it? She's helped him, she's been by his side and done everything in her power to keep him alive and well. But, how do you save "a tired spirit" -- one that appeared by his side and hasn't left. The truth is, I don't think Cooper wants her to leave. There are several problems Cooper has to overcome to help his dear friend. Samantha knows there just HAS to be a way to get her back into a body, to live again, to be human; but how? There are so many questions left unanswered, important questions, like how she died, who she was before and oh no memory of anything. The only thing she knows more than her belief in Cooper is that she really wants a body and to live again.

Cooper runs into a whole group of interesting characters along the way. You know, the next leg of his journey, which would be the way to get Samantha a body. He begins his investigation in the occult section of the library and it's there he meets a group of people that know Brent may be in more danger than he realizes. A a non-stop ride from page one, "Token of Darkness" has it all.

Amelia Atwater-Rhodes deserves high honors with "Token of Darkness". Other than my above review, I can only explain it in two words "Uniquely Addictive".

Books, Blabber & Being Me

It seems like forever since I've posted! I feel like I have a lifetime of things to catch up on and share with you and in part, it's true. I know... I know.. it's taking me a while to post lately and I do apologize! Will you forgive me if I say I have a really important reason AND it's true?

I miss my site, reviews, books, products and most of all, I miss all of you (my blogging friends). I can't Thank you for all of you that have taken the time to check up on me, write to me, send cards and letters, etc. I appreciate it more than you know!

I have quite a few changes that I need to make for a while. For those of you that do not know, I am in the hospital, I will be still running my contests and guest posts. I'd like to get the site back to where it was. I have quite a few authors that will be here with guest posts and giveaways, along with companies and their product giveaways.

I may, for the time being, need you to just pay attention to when winners are listed. I am going to *TRY* to still email each winner, but in the last post of "And the Winners Are", The Duchess kindly asked that to make it easier on me, if your name was listed, you email me at PrincessPrizes@Yahoo.com with your full name and address (to claim your prizes) MANY of you did not. Sadly, some of them were really large prizes!

I don't want to have to create a form of some sort where you put in your name, address and what you've done in the extras. But, if I have to, I will. I can't keep drawing and redrawing winner's names. I want the very first winner, the one that's worked hard, just as hard as the second winner chosen, to get their prize. OK?

I am honored to be asked by HARPER TEEN to be a part of their "28 Days of Winter Escapes"! 1. Jena collects “other people’s musings” about love and heartbreak. What’s your favorite quotation about love?

“ ‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” —Alfred Lord Tennyson

I like that quote because it’s about taking risks and really letting yourself live, even if it can hurt sometimes. I just Googled the quote and found this rant on a blog where someone wrote, “It is better to have loved and lost than to have spent the rest of my life with that psycho!” I have to admit, that’s a pretty perfect quote, too.

2. If you were a character in Tangled, who would you be most likely to offer advice to: Jena, Skye, Dakota, or Owen?

Hmmm. . . good question. I think Jena, despite her dark moments, has a decent amount of emotional grounding. Skye, by the end, has a therapist. Owen has his sense of humor to get him through. So I suppose I would give advice to Dakota. He seems so stranded in the world. That’s why I was relieved when he encountered Shasta. I’m hoping this is just the beginning of their story together.

3. Who are three people that you’re inextricably tangled with, and how have they affected your life?

My immediate reaction is my husband, my five-year-old son, and my infant son. We’re tangled together in that wonderful, messy, loving way where one person is brushing their teeth while the other is in the shower and the other is knocking on the door shouting that they need the bathroom and the other is grumbling because his pacifier fell out. But then I think about what tangled with people means to me. It’s those people who keep circling around in my life, who keep showing up—physically or even in memories—and affecting the course of things. By that definition, I’d say my best friend from childhood, my best friend from college, and the first guy I fell in love with. Even though all three of them aren’t in my day-to-day life, they are so much a part of who I am today.

4. Ever had a chance encounter that led to something special?

Yes, definitely. I did a lot of travelling when I was in college—biking around Europe with a friend, driving cross-country by myself—and I had some seriously amazing chance encounters. Subtext: met extremely cute, smart, interesting guys. There’s nothing like travel, being in a new place and feeling a bit liberated from who you are back home. When I was a teenager, I always felt like even my hair looked better when I traveled. Or maybe it was just the moisture of a more humid climate.

5. Where is paradise for you?

Someplace warm, like the Caribbean, with good swimming. And I have to be able to walk barefoot. When I was growing up, my grandparents lived in the Caribbean, in a house with lime trees and lizards scurrying up the walls. We used to visit them every winter, escaping the frozen tundra of western New York. Definitely paradise!

6. What book would you read on winter’s day?

Last winter, I read Sarah Conley by Ellen Gilchrist and I loved it. It’s just the right blend of happy and sad, heartbreaking and uplifting. Not to mention that Ellen Gilchrist is a pro—I felt like I was in great hands reading her story. I think I’ll read it again this winter. And there’s even a huge snowstorm in the beginning!

7. Do you believe in happily ever after?

Yes. Well, actually, I believe in happy-ever-after-with-some-work-and-some-good-luck-and-occasional-bumps-that-must-be-taken-with-a-dose-of-humor. It’s certainly not all happy, but a lot of it can be. And as for the bad stuff, you have to find someone who can laugh about it with you.

8. What makes something romantic?

With the right people, anything can be romantic, even being stranded on a runway for eighteen hours, as my husband and I were en route to our honeymoon. And with the wrong person, all the candlelight and French restaurants in the world can’t add up to romance.

9. What’s your favorite winter activity?

Sledding with my son in Riverside Park. There’s this huge hill near our apartment and he’s just starting to do the mini-ramps. I love running up and down the hill and watching him whiz by, pure glee on his little face.

10. Opposites attract or repel?

It depends on what kind of opposites. My husband and I are different in a lot of ways—like he loves having music on and I need quiet. Or he’ll devour a steak and I’m a lifelong vegetarian. These are the kinds of differences that make life interesting. But on a deep level, like what we believe in and how we view the world, we are similar. I suppose if I met my true opposite, in a worldview sort of way, I wouldn’t be enamored.

In case you don't know what that is, you kinda' shake your hips and throw your arms up in the air and then, at the same time while making two fists and singing "WOOO -- WOOO" or somtimes I throw in a "Go Me, Go Me, GO-HO GO MEE-HEE". Admit it...you just did that, you TOTALLY did! You did the happy dance! C'mon... admit to it... Alright. Alright. I have WAY more important things planned for today, but I swear, try it later on and you'll be happy ALL day!

My name is Jennifer Estep, and I write the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series for Pocket Books, The first book in the series, Spider’s Bite, was released on Jan. 26. Spider’s Bite focuses on Gin Blanco, an assassin codenamed the Spider who finds herself double-crossed on her latest hit and framed for a murder that she didn’t even commit. Spider’s Bite is my first foray into urban fantasy, which is one of my favorite genres to read and write in. Why do I like urban fantasy so much? Here are some of the reasons why:

1) Really strong heroines: Nobody can kick magical butt like an urban fantasy heroine, whether it’s Rachel Morgan in The Hollows series by Kim Harrison or Laurell K. Hamilton’s vampire hunter Anita Blake.

2) Cool magic worlds: One of my favorite things about urban fantasy is the variety of worlds to explore, from gritty cities to spooky castles and everything in between.

3) Interesting creatures: Vampires, werewolves, fairies, zombies, dwarves, giants, pixies, gremlins … if it’s creepy, crawly, nasty, sexy, scary, or just plain evil, it’s in urban fantasy.

4) Action scenes: There’s nothing I love reading more than a good action scene, when everything’s on the line and all hope seems lost. But somehow, the heroine always manages to save the day – and usually blows something up while she does it.

5) Sexy guys: After a hard day of fighting the undead, it’s always good to have a sexy guy to come home too – another reason that urban fantasy heroines are so darn lucky.

Now, all of these things are awesome enough by themselves. But do you want to know what the really cool thing about urban fantasy is? The fact that you can get all of these things – strong heroines, interesting magic, creepy creatures, great action, and sexy guys – in one book. I like books with a little bit of everything in them, and so writing and reading urban fantasy is right up my alley. And I have a feeling that I’ll be enjoying all that the genre has to offer for many years to come.

My thoughts -- To me, HOW TO SAY GOODBYE IN ROBOT was like being with a group of very unique friends. Ones that you'd want to hold onto forever and not let go! Superbly written, this book's got heart!

Using Setting to Find Your Writer's Voice

When I was growing up I envied army brats. Movie stars, I noticed, often said that they learned to be entertaining because they moved from place to place as kids and constantly needed to make new friends. An itinerant childhood seemed to be a requirement for a glamorous adulthood. My childhood was the opposite: extremely rooted. My family lived in Baltimore and--except for a two-year stint in the California desert while my dad in was in the Air Force (I was a baby and barely remember it)—we never left. My parents grew up there. My grandparents had lived there. My aunts and uncles and cousins lived there. When we went on vacation, we went to Ocean City, Maryland, or Bethany Beach, Delaware, with all the other Baltimoreans. I could hardly walk down the street without running into someone I was related to. Even when I met new people, it always seemed to turn out that their father knew my mother in kindergarten or their sister played lacrosse with my sister, or something. I was steeped in that place.

My parents tried to bribe me to stay in Baltimore for college, but there wasn't enough money in the world. I was out of there! Four years in glamorous Providence, Rhode Island! Then, after college, I moved straight to New York City and I've been here ever since.

But.

Now that I'm writing teen fiction and mining my own memories for material, that strong sense of place is a godsend. HOW TO SAY GOODBYE IN ROBOT is my first novel set in Baltimore, and, not coincidentally, it was in writing this novel that I found my true writer's voice. That voice has been lurking in my other books, of course, on the fringes, but now I have a real sense of what it is—melancholy, funny, a little odd—a reflection of the place where I grew up. The city's inflections and imagery permeate my personality, and I've finally figured out how to use those elements to make my writing richer.

People often talk about character and plot when giving writing advice, but don't forget about setting. A vivid setting can inspire you, give you story and character ideas, pull you out of a hole when you get stuck. A novel is a monster that eats details: the writer feeds the story to make it grow and keep it moving forward. When you are writing about a vivid setting, you have more details at hand to feed the monster. Trust me, you want that.

Everyone sees home in her own way; even members of the same family will describe their childhood home differently. New York City has been the setting for countless books, movies, and TV shows, but the New York of J.D. Salinger is different from Woody Allen's or Cecily von Ziegesar's or Jerry Seinfeld's. Their visions of the city reflect their personalities and their feelings about it—their "inner landscape"—and that's the secret to using setting in fiction. Don't feel bound to describe a place exactly as it is. Describe it as it looks through your characters' eyes. Choose the details that reflect their state of mind, that illustrate your character's inner landscape. I've been a New Yorker for years, but I still see everything through my Baltimore-bred eyes, which tend to focus on the melancholy, the funny, and the odd no matter where I go.

FINDING THE TIME - A NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION

Although a lot of writers aspire to be full-time authors, even writers who write full-time have other commitments to contend with. Housekeeping. Children. Pets. Significant others. The groceries still need to be bought; the trash still needs to be taken out. So sometimes, for those of us who don't write full-time, it can be a challenge to find the time and energy to get the writing done. Even I struggle at the end of the day to crank out a few hundred.

1. 15 Minutes a Day, 500 Words a Day

Much like improving strength and stamina requires a regular exercise commitment, writing a novel can be
accomplished in small, daily steps, stress on the "small." Make a commitment to write a little bit at a time. Instead of promising yourself to "write a novel," in 2010, promise yourself to complete a small writing goal each day.

These goals can be drafted in terms of minutes ("write for 15 minutes a day") or word count ("write 300 words a day"). And just like exercise, don't forget to give yourself a couple of days off. Challenge yourself to write four or five days per week, with two days devoted to living, breathing, watching, learning and reading--things that will improve your writing organically.

You can track your goal on a calendar (give yourself a star each day you write), in a journal (chart your word count as it increases) or in a blog (share your progress with others). Just like in a weight-loss regimen, give yourself a reward for each goal made--maybe a new book or writing notebook for each 10,000 words completed.

Instead of focusing on the "completed manuscript" goal, think about writing a little bit each day. Little by little, you'll get there!

2. Stealing Time

If your schedule doesn't permit you to set aside a scheduled 15 minutes per day, think about how you can "steal time" for writing.

Do you take a train in the mornings? Do you have a lunch break or lunch period? Do you usually spend dinner on the couch in front of the television? Can you steal time during any of those activities to scribble notes or write a few sentences of dialogue in a notebook? Can you type out a "note" on your smartphone or PDA while you're in line at the grocery store? Think about those tiny increments of time you can use to get in a couple of ideas, a chapter title, or a character sketch.

3. Just One More Word...Line...Page...Chapter

Too tired to write? Did you make it to 14 minutes, but just can't stretch it out to 15? Just like you might stretch for that extra five minutes on the treadmill, or that extra ab crunch, try to get in one more word, one more line, or one more page. One line at a time can add up to a fabulous new idea or the start of a great new chapter.

The ultimate rule, of course, is to get something on the paper. While the manuscript you submit to an agent or editor needs to be as perfect as you can make it, the stuff you right on any given day doesn't. Get the words on paper, then edit scrupulously later on.

My Thoughts:

Gamian spins the story of young Odd and his adventure to cease the endless winter in his village. This slim tale is based on Norse Mythology, which to be honest I had no idea about. Gaiman does in this book what he does best; he builds an entire imaginary world that can be sensed while reading. I believe the scene at the lake is the best example of this. You can see the shine off the water and feel the bear close by. When I read Gaiman's work, I become enraptured in his settings and plot.

While reading other reviews of this book, many reviews were disappointed at how quickly it was over. If we remember the tale is intended for children, we might be more apt to agree with the short length of the tale. A child who isn't a reader will feel a sense of accomplishment when they are able to finish an entire "chapter book" with out getting bored or tired of the story. I think, the length was well intended and the story is great for those hesitant readers.
